Sand Technologies has built a reputation for enabling global leaders from the utilities, telecommunications and healthcare sectors, among others, to achieve tangible results with AI and data science. For the past decade, clients across Europe, Africa and Asia have partnered with the company to solve their most pressing challenges. Sand Technologies’ U.S. launch, marked by a high-profile event in New York City, signals a new era of AI-driven outcomes for American businesses and municipalities.
“Our AI solutions have helped clients around the world deliver meaningful results, from expanding access to essential services to modernizing infrastructure and transforming systems,” said Fred Swaniker, CEO of Sand Technologies. “We’re excited to show U.S. organizations how using cutting-edge AI to solve real-world challenges can inspire confidence and help them make real progress even in uncertain times.”
Leaders from across government, finance and high-tech took the opportunity at Sand Technologies’ U.S. launch to emphasize the need for the company’s fresh approach to AI design and solutioning.
“If we could leverage the power of artificial intelligence to make smarter decisions ahead of time … it will bring up the quality of life of the entire city,” said New York City Chief Technology Officer Matthew Fraser. “When you get down to the foundation of what Sand Technologies is doing, it’s clear that their work will not just change a person’s life or a city’s life — it will change a nation’s life.”
“I care deeply about U.S. competitiveness … and ensuring America leads — and wins — in the global AI race,” said Gina Raimondo, former U.S. Secretary of Commerce and Governor of Rhode Island, and also a member of the TIME100 AI 2024 list. “We’ve led in developing sophisticated AI models. But we also need to lead in applying these models — across healthcare, financial services and beyond — if we’re truly going to compete and lead on the global stage.”
“In the U.S. Virgin Islands, our biggest challenge is a lack of people. Like most remote areas, we don’t have enough expertise, and we’re rebuilding our entire infrastructure,” said Governor Albert Bryan, Jr. of the U.S. Virgin Islands. “For us, AI is a godsend because it substitutes for the workers we don’t have. It’s what will make our industries sustainable long after federal funding runs out.”
“In an organization as large as ours, AI has different use cases across the business,” said Bernard Mensah, President of International at Bank of America. “We spend $12 to $14 billion annually on technology, with around $4 billion going to new initiatives. If we can save even 10–15% … that’s real, material savings. Ultimately, our north star is improving financial lives, and that’s what guides how we adopt and apply AI.”
Sand Technologies is known for building large-scale AI solutions that power critical infrastructure across sectors and solve complex challenges at scale. Its AI solutions have earned multiple awards across the UK, Africa and Asia.
The company’s U.S. launch event also reinforced its dedication to workforce development through its sister organization, ALX. Having trained hundreds of thousands of young professionals in data, software engineering and AI, ALX will soon look to Sand Technologies to support the rollout of its training model in communities across America.
Additional speakers at the Sand Technologies launch included Neerav Kingsland, Head of Social Impact at Anthropic; Grammy Award-winning music producer Timbaland; double-platinum artist Jidenna; award-winning songwriter and producer Tommy Brown; Kunle Olukotun, Co-Founder of AI chip disruptor SambaNova; Wendy Kopp, Founder and CEO of Teach For All; Ali Hogan, Founder and Board Chair of Rung for Women; and Don Gips, CEO of the Skoll Foundation.
